What is Awaken Mozambique?
Awaken Mozambique is a micro-funding program to create employment for people in Beira, Mozambique – one of the ten poorest countries in the world. In Beira, there is virtually no employment. Beira has one of the biggest slums in Africa. The population is the same as Australia’s, and yet over half (i.e. 11 million people) live on less than a dollar a day and fewer than 10% of children complete high school.

Peter Evans M.Ed, MBA, Grad. Dip. Rec., Grad. Cert. Ed. Dip. YL. FAICD, FAIM, FAMI CPM, and JP(Qual) . Peter is Principal of Leadership Education Australia, and lectures in leadership and strategy to MBA students at two universities. He has co-authored books on leadership and higher education teaching and learning. He is also Executive Coach in Residence at Queensland University of Technology in Queensland, Australia.
Peter has been CEO of a national company, owned a small business, been a Head of Department in local government, and worked for ten years in the not-for-profit sector. He currently chairs two not-for-profit organisations.
Doug Hargreaves B.Eng, M.Sc, PhD, FIE Aust, CPEng, Eng Exec, FIPENZ, MAICD, RPEQ. Doug is Professor and Head of the School of Engineering Systems in the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering at Queensland University of Technology in Queensland, Australia. He is Past President of his Rotary Club, and a senior leader in the Salvation Army. Doug also worked for many years in the private sector.
In 2008, he was invited to stand for the role of President of Engineers Australia, the peak body for the engineering profession. He is currently National President of the 86,000-strong membership. While this book is a collaborative effort, it is based on Doug as a living example of values-driven leadership.
